Why can’t I open Microsoft Office 2007 files?
Files created with Microsoft Office 2007 use a new file format that is not compatible with Office 2003 and older versions of Office. Files that are created with the new Office 2007 format end with the extension “.docx” for Word, “.xlsx” for Excel , and “.pptx” for Power Point.
How can I open Office 2007 files in Office 2003?
Office 2003 users can install Microsoft’s compatibility pack to convert Word, Excel and Power Point documents from Office 2007 users. Download the compatibility pack from here (this link will redirect you to Microsoft’s website): microsoft.com
Directions:
- Click the “Download” button and save the file to your computer.
- To install double-click the “FileFormatConverters.exe” file
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete install.
How can I save files in Office 2007 to be compatible with older versions of office?
Simply select “Save as” from the “Office” button in the top left, and then select “Word 97-2003 Document”. This will save the file with the appropriate file extension recognized by older versions of Office.
