Configuring Mac Mail for Secure IMAP
- First open the Mail application. The Mail application can be found in your Applications folder or by default in the Dock
- If you have an existing account go to step 6. If this is the first time setting up Mail the General Information page will open.

Enter the following information:
- For Account Type - Choose IMAP
- For Account Description - Type UTC EMail
- Enter your full name
- Enter your email address - example: FirstName-LastName@utc.edu
- Click Continue
- Enter the following information for the Incoming Mail Server:
- For Incoming Mail Server type: mail.utc.edu
- Enter your UTCID
- Enter your password
- Click Continue
- Enter the following information for the Outgoing(SMTP) Mail Server:
- Note: This step will require some patience. Once you click continue Mail will search for the Server and after some time will return an error message . This is to be expected since the ports need to be configured.
- For Outgoing Mail Server type: mail.utc.edu
- Check the Use Authentication checkbox
- Enter your UTCID
- Enter your password
- Click Continue
- Click Continue review the settings you just entered.
- Next go to the Preference menu and select the Accounts tab.
- On the Accounts Information tab select Server Settings on the bottom

- Change the Outgoing Server Port to 465 and check "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Authentication should be set to Password. Enter UTCID and password if blank. Click OK

- Next, select the Advanced tab and make sure the IMAP server port to 993 and check "Use SSL" . Click OK.
