Configuring Mac Mail for Secure POP
- First open the Mail application. The Mail application can be found in your Applications folder or by default in the Dock (the bar at the bottom of your screen.)
- If you have an existing account go to step 6. If this is the first time setting up Mail the General Information page will open. Enter the following information:
- For Account Type - Choose POP
- For Account Description - Type UTC EMail
- Enter your full name
- Enter your email address - example: FirstName-LastName@utc.edu
- Click Continue
- Enter the following information for the Incoming Mail Server:
- For Incoming Mail Server type: mail.utc.edu
- Enter yourUTCID
- Enter your password
- Click Continue
- Enter the following information for the Outgoing(SMTP) Mail Server:
- Note: This step will require some patience. Once you click continue Mail will search for the Server and will return an error message after some time . This is to be expected since ports need to be configured.
- For Outgoing Mail Server type: mail.utc.edu
- Check the Use Authentication checkbox
- Enter your UTCID
- Enter your password
- Click Continue
- Click Continue review the settings you just entered.
- Next go to the Preference menu and select the Accounts tab
- On the Accounts Information tab select Server Settings on the bottom

- Change the Outgoing Server Port to 465 and check "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL).Authentication should be set to Password. Enter UTCID and password if blank. Click OK
- Next, select the Advanced tab and make sure that the IMAP server port to 995 and check "Use SSL" . Click OK.
