Spam Filtering
UTC uses M+ Gaurdian to filter spam. The system will block emails that contain viruses and quarantine emails that it suspects as being spam emails. An email will be sent each day containing a list of emails that have been quarantined. From this email you can take the following actions:
- Delete - This action will delete the message from your quarantine*. If you chose not to take any action on messages in your quarantine they will automatically be deleted after 7 days from the time they arrive.
- Deliver - This action delivers the message sitting in quarantine* to your inbox (this action is only good for that one email).
- Always Allow - This action will add the sender of the email to your "Allow List" (aka: WhiteList) so that messages from that sender in the future will not be quarantined.
*Quarantine - a holding place for messages marked as possible spam

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to delete every message?
- Can I turn off the email notifications?
- I told it to "Allow Always" and still emails are being quarantined.
Do I have to delete every message in my quarantine?
No, the M+ Gaurdian will automatically delete messages 7 days from the day they arrive.
Can I turn off the email notifications?
Yes, you can turn off notifications. Login to your account at
https://myspam.utc.edu/
using your full email address (fist-last@utc.edu) and your related
password. Select the 'Options' tab in the upper right. There you can
adjust your choice of receiving notifications or not.
Note, the purpose of the notifications is to make you aware of mail that is *potential* SPAM... but, it might *not* be! While this system is fairly accurate, it's not perfect. You should check your quarantined messages for emails that you want to receive.
I told it to "Allow Always" and emails I want to receive are quarantined.
The "Allow Always" in the email tells the M+Guardian to allows always that email address. If you receive emails from multiple people at the same domain (@something.com) then you must log on to M+ Guardian and tell it to Allow everyone sending from that domain.
Login to your account at https://myspam.utc.edu/ using your full email address (fist-last@utc.edu) and your related password. Click on the 'Lists' tab. In the Allow section type in the domain name after the @ symbol.
For example: To add everyone from comcast type in the box comcast.net and click Add.
