The who, why and how of mail spoofing. Who is pretending to be someone
they're not? Why are people pretending to be someone else? How are
people getting away with using your name for their email? If you've
ever received an email that appeared to come from yourself, and you know
you didn't send it, you've probably been spoofed. It's not that hard to
do. We'll try to give a live demonstration during the presentation.
Additionally, if we have time, we'll talk about IP spoofing along a similar vein. How hackers/crackers get into networks were they don't belong.
Social Engineering:
Con men, scam artists, swindlers, flimflam artists, and the kid next door. Everyone is out to get you, but everyone knows that they're not going to get $320,000 from Nigerian. Well, most everyone. We'll talk about how to spot a scammer. We'll show a few examples from recent TV shows and movies and point out how things could have gone a little better for the users. And we might even do a live presentation of how your very own IT crew could pull off one of these scams on an unsuspecting victim.
